STATEMENT
I work in three dimensions using wood and wire. I often harvest the wood myself. Dark annealed is my wire of choice. Often I use these two materials in combination. My creations are slightly abstract; that is, not entirely divorced from reality. Resembling real objects, my pieces engage and challenge the viewer to discover or imagine their use or function. My major inspiration is nature. I like the orderliness of line and arc found there. At the same time, I am drawn to the seeming chaos manifested in nature, especially where what at first appears to be random carries a hidden order. Although largely self taught, I have attended a number of woodworking workshops as well as in faux marbling and wood graining, techniques which I employ in some of my pieces. With no formal training, I have been able to work from a unique self-realized aesthetic untied to traditional pedagogical genres and techniques.
