Fran Sampson
STATEMENT
Fran Sampson is a painter that uses uses color, brush strokes, collage material, and texture to create an ambiguous spacial field. She uses torn word fragments, barcodes, and stamped symbols as stand-ins for humans and elements of society.
Meditation is part of an on going series of paintings called Origin that captures both a sense of frantic movement referencing life on a quantum level, as well as the evolutionary movement of life from stardust to beings conscious of their own existence and capable of abstracting that concept.

Curator Review of Fran Sampson's work: An impression of locomotion and relativity has been created in this painting (Cycles), by the placement of circles and lines against the layered background. This incredibly seamless and coherent expression of equilibrium, invites the observer to look 'through' the paint and conveys a great sense of depth and order. Artist Fran Sampson has aptly crafted an extraordinarily dimensional and cohesive work, and should be applauded for her articulate expression of motility in art. E.E. Jacks
